Eventually you think I would learn how to do one of these timetrial things a little bit more like I know they should be done. I guess you could say I need to do them as I think and not as I do.
This morning the Ghisallo club held their first annual Velo in the Valley timetrial. I could hardly refuse to go do it because it was after all a timetrial. Plus the entire course lies less than 10 minutes from my front door. Oh, and they were paying real honest to goodness cash money for the top spots.
Ah, on the payouts, I'm kicking myself a bit. I didn't know they even had a 50+ category until they started handing out the envelopes to the winners. My bad. A missed opportunity to race not only in the 4's but also in the 50+. Had I raced again I might have taken home a little extra cash.
My stellar pacing ability snagged me a solid second place in the 4's. The winner got me by 6 seconds. Pacing. I was a full 5 watts weaker coming back than I was going out. Too bad. No soup for me.
I did manage to do a couple of things right this time though. For instance, I didn't forget to zip my skinsuit. That's a big accomplishment for me. And my turnaround... I had a decent turnaround for a change. It only took me about 8 seconds from the time I let off the gas to getting back on it; and during the turn my speed averaged nearly 30kph.
I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever pull it all together at once. It's a good thing for me to have had so many chances to fail and learn from my mistakes this year.
You know, it is funny
A time trial is supposed to be the simplest form of bike racing:
1. Ride that-a-way (fast).
2. Turn around.
3. Ride back (fast).
4. Lowest time wins.
It sounds so simple, yet there are so many opportunities to make mistakes. Sounds like you did quite well though.
Success by any measure
You are definitely a TT machine! You are my carrot. Unfortunately, I'm the donkey. Great race and I'm certain better results await you at the State TT.
Great result your own self
You had a great day yourself, Boz.
Sorry to say I told you so, but... Didn't I tell you I thought you'd make a great TT'er? Now we both know I have to watch my back.
Donkey... Funny. Made me think Shrek:
