I wish I had something really cool to report. This weekend was a bear for me in terms of trying to fit in riding. I did manage to roll a fat tire on Sunday though.
G-wiz called and threw down the gauntlet, so I had to take the offer. We rolled out at about 11:00 and stopped around 1:30. About 2.5 hours of rigid single speed hammering. The worst part of it is, G would probably call it a leisure ride.
Honestly, it was not a "race pace" for me, but there were many times that I could not have held much higher pace (I am sure G could have though). I think this body is just not used to the pounding it takes on the trails (or the frequency range necessary to run one gear).
It was a great time and other than being tired and hands covered with blisters. I would have to call it a complete success. My early bed time last night was further indication that I had received a thorough workout.
I tried out one of my new recycled/homemade garments and I can only call that a complete success. Speaking of garments, the challenge of the day was selecting the proper clothing for the ride. It was cold when we started (40s but VERY windy). The wind coming off the lake would really sting the face. When we finished the temps were in the 50s. I opted for wool and it worked really well. Once again, I am pondering why wool has such a small market share for bike wear...It just seems to work really well.
Hope everyone got in a good ride or two last weekend. You have to take what you can get, when you can get it.
Good Times
Glad to have you back on dirt! It seems like an eon ago that we got to rip trail together, but I understand your love of road this year. Hell, if I had a sweet road bike like you I probably wouldn't be able to stay off of it. But alas I have a very mediocre cross bike, so it usually turns out I am attracted to my fat tire two wheel machines more often than not.
The wool cap he was wearing was pretty sweet, and looked super easy to make. I'm all for homemade stuff, especially when it saves you booku bucks.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
