Wednesday Night Timetrial #5 - Getting Closer

Friday morning already? I can't seem to get caught up. This season will almost certainly go down as the busiest season on record for me. I must be making up for having lost last season.

So here I am on Friday morning catching up on Wednesday's TT. What a night we had. About 35 toed the line and experienced the best conditions yet this year for fast soloing.

I managed a fair effort for my own part. I'm reasonably comfortable with my position. Like any proper TT position it's only comfortable for a few minutes. Riding aero isn't uncomfortable all by itself, but riding aero on a UCI legal configuration and putting out maximum power is another matter altogether. Fast TT'ing on a UCI legal bike setup is all about making compromises.

The good and the not so good for Wednesday's ride went something like this:
Good: Decent but not great power output.
Good: Fairly decent looking aero position
Not so good: My pacing still isn't quite where I want it to be.

Next up is a tear down and rebuild of my TT bike. I want to try out some new extensions, which will mean completely re-cabling the shifting system. I'll plan on a whole day for that. Experience shows even the smallest bit of wrenching on this bike has the potential to turn into and all-day affair.

Want to talk about an all-day affair, try breaking down a bike for shipping. I wrapped, taped, and stuffed every bit of that thing down for maximum protection. I get what you're saying though. Makes you want a NASCAR pit crew who could make some slight adjustments and push you back onto the test track.

It's a lot of work

It's a lot of work wrenching a bike. I could really handle being a pro and having a full-time wrench to build, rebuild, maintain, and clean my bikes for me. Tear it down and pack it up for travel? Not my job! Besides, it's time for my massage.

Yeah I guess I could handle that.

OK back to reality.
