Now that the sun is setting the wind has finally died down. Had it been like this earlier, this would have been exactly that splendid day I've been waiting for. For late October, I'll take it. Especially given it was also a Saturday.
The roads around here today contained a dangerous combination of regular traffic, people making pumpkin runs and looking at fall colors and cyclists. The pumpkin runners wanted to go slow so they could find the perfect spot to pull over and take pictures. The slow driving wasn't a big problem for me, but the regular traffic guys didn't think much of it. What is it about Saturday afternoon traffic? People seem to be extra impatient on Saturdays.
So here's what we had out there. We've got people wanting to go faster than usual, people wanting to go slower than usual, people pulling over and throwing open doors to get the perfect fall picture just about anywhere they feel like it, and me. I bet my VI for today would have been 10 points higher because of all the random slow down / speed up stuff.
I say would have been because I have no idea what it really was. I've been so focused on getting my wonky rear derailleur working right again I forgot to recharge my SRM. I remembered it just before mounting up. And I was feeling good today too. Seeing the numbers might have been fun. The real fun was just in being out there.

Lots of other riders were out there too. Maybe it's the high price of gasoline. It seems like I've been seeing more and more people out riding, particularly couples. Maybe it's a trend. I sure hope so.
Oh, the title of this post? You know how sometimes when you get done riding you know exactly what you want to eat? Today the answer to the question "What's for dinner?" was waffles. And I don't mean the frozen kind you drop in a toaster. And not the kind you "just add water" to either. I'm talking about the kind you beat egg whites to soft peaks to make. Hey, aren't those French? Or maybe Belgian? Now I get it. I knew there had to be a cycling connection.
