I am back and I am still alive. This has almost nothing to do with bikes, but I decided to document what I was up to this weekend anyway.
It all started out on Thursday, we hopped in the family truckster and headed to the airport with the kids (destination unknown to them). Once there, we hopped a flight to Tampa to visit family for a few hours prior to bed.
Friday morning I woke up sick as a dog. After a few screaming sessions with the porcelain god we were on our way to a one-day marathon tour of Disney (over in Orlando). Man that was a long day! The low-intensity cross training had to be beneficial (we must have walked 15 miles, and I was always carrying something or someone).
Saturday, was a trip to the local pool/water park. Not much of a workout there, but I probably dropped a few pounds in the hot sun.
Sunday had us traveling to the beach (traffic turned a 45 minute trip into several hours...go figure). Once there, we had a pretty good time. Not sure of the training benefits one might expect from digging in the sand for a couple hours after carrying 80 pounds of gear across about a mile of sugar sand (perhaps a bit of core building?).
Monday was a travel day again. It was a gauntlet of canceled and overbooked flights. The good news was we finally managed to find a non-stop that was only 10 hours later than our plan "A". This flight was totally full (we managed to squeeze on somehow). Major League Baseball Spring Training and Spring Break aligned to end this weekend, so there was a mass exodus from Florida.
Our flight was awesome! Better than any ride at Disney. We followed a series of storm cells that had all three of my kids (and everyone else) holding on for dear life! My youngest was well know by the flight's end (he was screaming louder than any child I have ever heard, for the last hour of the flight).
Did I mention that a 2 hour flight lasted 3 hours? It felt like more. I got out of my seat once (against the pilots warning) to attempt to soothe my screaming child, and bumped my head on the roof of the plane as I was cast upward several feet from turbulence...folks if the pilot says, "remain seated with your seatbelt fastened", listen to him.
In the end, it was a fantastic trip. In addition to the adventures on the plane, we all had some great family experiences. While I am totally wasted, I really am recharged and champing at the bit to get out and ride...a few days off will do that to you.
Sorry for the lack of bike talk. I saw some bikes being ridden under the warm sun, but I had no wheels along to ride.
