I have owned this Surly Karate Monkey for a couple years now. You might say that this bike has changed my life. I have met a lot of new friends on this bike, and tackled a lot of new challenges on this bike.
I loved it from the start. I modified it a bit...Cut off the derailer hangers, and cable bosses. I also had it powder coated. Customized and pimped to the hilt.
I have punished this bike well, often, long and hard. I have treated it like a rental, and it always seemed to like that....
Today, I was cleaning it...something I do on occasion, and I noticed something that made me freeze dead still. I was in absolute shock.
Can you see it? Look close...
I guess that I must now find a new friend to abuse...I will keep this treasure around and love it on gravel roads and the occasional commute, but unfortunately I will not be able to love her in the woods anymore.
I feel like crying...I am not joking either...
Sucks
Dude that's a bad bit of news. Devastating about captures it. As Billy something-or-other said, "Only the good die young."
No question about it. You gotta hold on to that frame. At least some part of it. That frame is more than special.
Oh, and G-wiz will be so proud of you for breaking a frame in a way even he's not been able to crack one.
Things are looking up...
I spoke with a builder that is willing to patch this frame so that I can continue riding it....while he builds a new steed for me!
This is the best of both worlds...I can keep an old friend and gain a new one.
I will post up details as they come in. Hopefully, this will turn out REALLY cool!
