The Bars are Off!

Last night, mid-ride, I decided to remove the dual bar set up. I put a wrench next to the trainer just in case I would want to do this. After about 30 minutes of tempo, I wanted to drop down and stretch my back, so off came the bars (only 2 bolts to do so...so I never stopped pedaling).

The wrist seems to be healing up well. No pain, no problems. I can put pressure on my hands and don't even notice that there is an injury...must be the 9 grams of C I took yesterday.

Speaking of Vitamin C. I thought that it would cause me to need to defecate profusely to triple my normal daily intake...so far no changes. Don't fear the Vit. C folks! I slept well last night and other than a slight increase in gas there is nothing bad to report about the major upswing in Vitamin C intake.

On the topic of nutrition. I am readying an order of some supplements for the upcoming Ouachita Challenge. I figure I need some more Gel, some electrolyte tablets, and some energy drinks (something with a little protein for the long haul). Hammer Nutrition makes a cool product called Perpetuem. I used it last year and it seemed to help. It contains a lot of carbs, some Protein, and even a little fat to make you feel "satisfied" without being full and groggy. That sounds strange...I am not a salesman for the stuff so I lack the ability to explain how it works, but that is what I feel. If you want to learn more check here.

So anyway, I got in another 100 minutes of tempo last night, and other than my legs feeling like they might not have as much snap, I feel pretty good. Not much to report from the ride, other than it was a trainer ride...which sucks a lot!

For those interested in my injury...I was using the shears again last night...cutting away from myself of course, and set them on my arm to estimate how far they must have penetrated to create a cut this size. Because I watch CSI, I am a forensic genius (like everyone else who watches that garbage) so I recalled the angle of entry and such. I figure these scissors had to penetrate about an inch and a half into my arm...Prior to revisiting the scene I guessed they had only gone in about 3/4 inch....either way, it was deep and I really did not figure I would be feeling this good this soon!

Once again, the picture has nothing to do with the post. The Handmade Bike Show is coming up and this paint job was displayed there last year. That bike show looks pretty cool for anyone who wants or appreciates a bike that is not "off the shelf".

Individuality

I tried responding to your comments yesterday but for some reason, they didn't show up. One of the things to remember about nutritional therapy is individuality. People differ on the amounts they require. I was going to try and warn you to be careful and don't force the vit C. Pay close attention to your stomach and gas. Over time you will get a sense of what you can tolerate. I started out with about 3 grams per day and gradually increased from there. I typically take 8 to 12 grams a day now. If I get sick, I take much more.

Wow

I usually do 3 grams a day and stepped up considerably yesterday. I wonder where the limit is? Not that I really want to find it....

How much do you take when you get sick?

Depends

It depends on how sick I am. If I sense a real strong cold or flu, I will hit it pretty hard. There have been times when I took around 40 grams in a 24 hour period. Here's something I made up the other day to kind of teach people a little about vitamin C usage.
