Shake down

I decided to perform a final test and tune on the KM prior to the race tomorrow.

First of all, I got my tubeless wheels back on Thursday, and not a moment too soon. When I checked my tubed wheels after removal from my bike, the front tire was completely flat. Flats are such a downer...even when they happen on wheels you are taking off.

So I went out the the race loop and met up with G-wiz. He was testing out his new bike (a demo Dakota from Jamis). Apparently, he lucked into a demo bike to use while they produce a new frame for him that is hopefully stronger than his Exile was.

I was feeling fine, and decided to try riding sans pack and with only a bottle for fluid intake. Man, it is liberating to ride "naked". This hopefully will work out well. Because the race loop is short, and my race will be over if I have any problems anyway, there is no real need to carry a pack. Plus it is hot as all get-out so any help will be nice.

My race is going to probably be over before it starts anyway. I have been urged to race as an expert (and I probably will for giggles). I believe that this class is beyond my abilities, and coupled with the single speed, I do not plan to be a threat...particularly if any of the pros show up. In previous years semi-local racers that did this race are now carrying pro cards...if they show, it is going to be FUN to watch.

Couple this positive mental attitude I have with the fact that I have ridden more this week than any other week this year (hardly what you call a training taper), and you will quickly understand why I am planning to just have fun tomorrow. After all, that is the only reason for a guy like me to race in the first place.
