I went out last night to ride with the Tuesday Night group, and on the way to the park it started raining.
It was absolutely pouring rain when I got there, but since it started so quickly, I thought may be it would end equally quickly (highly isolated rain storm). It lasted about 15 minutes total, and then we headed out onto the trails.
It did not take long to determine that this was a bad idea, so we all came back to the lot to pack up. While there, we encountered many others that were determined to get a ride in.
I tried my best to convince them that no one wanted to ride more than me, but I realized that it would be bad for the trail and future rides to try and squeeze a ride in tonight.
I guess some people just couldn't hind it in themselves to agree with me. It is a free country and ultimately it is every one's own personal decision to ride or not based on their own ethics...so I will not dis anyone for their choices. I just felt that given the amount of trail work that I perform in a typical year (not too much), it would be poor taste to trash the trails too.
Perhaps some of the trails were dry enough to ride? I rode only a short distance on the trails and now need to do some major cleaning and maintenance to my bike. The frame is caked with mud, and even though it is a single speed, I need to clean up the drive train after last night.
Bad PR
I hope the trails aren't too bad off after they went out and rode them. It looks bad for cyclists when walkers on the trail see ruts caused by bicycles. It's bad PR.
Frustrated Isolation
Good post unit.
I had to turn the title around on you tho. hope you don't mind a little humor at your expense.
I do agree about riding wet trails too. it's wrong and that's all there is to it
