Hi, welcome to my bike riding blog where I do not talk about riding....
Sorry, I was unable to get out for a meaningful ride yesterday. But, I did think about my bike and did manage to do some wrenching on it...additionally I went to the LBS yesterday to hang out and talk to the guys.
I guess there is more to being a biker than just riding a lot. It has become a lifestyle for me. Honestly, it became a lifestyle about 30 years ago, but I have came to and left from this life style a few times over the years.
Being a biker is more than riding. I say this because I appreciate those around me that not only ride, but can offer help when needed (help wrenching, help trail building, help spending money, help with part suggestion, etc.).
Last night I ran into an old friend that is aligned with me in focus to rebuild the jumps in the field at Binder. We passed each other at Target and he looked up and said "Hi" and then almost without any other small talk started discussing if we wanted Parks and Rec. to dump 8 or 10 loads of dirt out there for us....that guy is a biker...but we did not talk about riding.
Yesterday, I was on the phone with a close friend who is working on a project and needs a special something to finish his bike build project. I offered the insight of having a custom head badge built for the bike. He seemed unaware of the possibility prior to the conversation, but was totally hip to the idea after discovery....not once did we discuss riding the bike though.
Yesterday I also did some wrenching on my new bike. I flipped the brake lever clamps (to give some more thumb clearance), I applied a bit of Loc-tite to the rear sliders (a tip I learned from a fellow biker on the forum), I adjusted my bars (put in a little down sweep, like my Jones bars had), and installed a smaller rotor on the front (the balance of this new bike has the front brake too sensitive with that 203mm front rotor). I did manage to ride the bike around my parking lot to test and seat in the new rotor....hardly what you call a "ride".
What is my point in this? I really do not know. I guess just to say that we are bikers...may be we do not ride all the time or even every day, but we ride, wrench, and talk/read about it...it is in our blood. I think the more we talk about it and share this gift with the world, the happier (more) people will be. Share the wealth!
