Nature has a way of balancing things.

I love to take a look at what is going on once in a while, and sometimes am lucky enough to see some of the beauty that exists right under our noses, yet goes unnoticed by most of us. I got lucky enough to see a turtle laying eggs yesterday, but I kept my distance because I did not want to upset the balance anymore than I already had by being there in the first place.
Today, 2-old and I returned for some more rigid SS riding at Binder and found the spot where the eggs had been planted. To our surprise, nature had taken its course and the eggs had become a meal for something else. All that remained was a hole in the earth and a bunch of leathery egg shells.
At first, I was a little sad, but then realized that this was something bigger than me. If all the turtles had lived, and grown to adulthood perhaps the entire lake would then be devoid of all fish? At least I can rest knowing that I probably had nothing to do with their demise...

One other neat thing I found was the remains of a freshly hatched turtle. It was laying on the ground where I was adjusting my shoe (otherwise, I would have never noticed it). This has got to be the smallest turtle I have ever seen...

The riding was really good too. We rode a full lap, and were in and out of rain most of the time. The trails were good and tacky (never very muddy). The crazy thing was that the rain was VERY localized...you actually rode in and out of it. One switchback would be raining and the next would be dry (and obviously had not had rain in many hours), then the next would be wet and under rain....crazy stuff.
The humidity was among the worst I have experienced...the rainy sections were a relief!
Keep him?
I didn't notice whether you kept that little guy or not. No doubt about it he's good mojo.
That is, if you're into that sort of thing.
nahh
I put him back where I found him...He will probably end up like that snake we saw...carried off by the scavengers.
