I don’t own one of these….yet….They are pretty neat though. It makes me think of a topic I would like to discuss. What is the most frivolous bike related purchase you have made?

For me it is sort of tough to answer this. I have bought a lot of stupid things over the years. I am a sucker for “neat” stuff, gadgets, and stupid things like this. I bought some new aero bar extensions for my Time Trial bike a while back because Lance was using some like them….I have NEVER used them.

Some people buy jewelry, others buy nice cloths, we all buy things that on some level seem like a poor use of money (I suspect). The fact that the rotor in this picture exists PROVES that there are people out there spending money of silly things…lots of them. I suspect that they spend money on things like this because it makes them look and feel better about their bike…just like gold and diamond jewelry, or nice cloths make you look and feel better about your appearance. Nothing wrong with that, but at some level, it does start to look silly (Mr. T for example).

So let’s hear it…if you dare…What is the most frivolous dollar you ever spent on a bike related purchase? I know that I am not the only one that spent extra for purple anodizing back in the 80s.
