Thursday nighter

Mark EWERS's picture

We got a late start, but we did get started. Just a friendly group of three out on the road tonight. Dan, Phil and me. My SRM shows I covered about 28 miles, but that counts the ride to and from the ride.

I don't think I could have picked a better group to ride with than this one tonight. Yesterday's strength and balance session took plenty of snap out of my legs. A hammer session probably would have been an exercise in frustration, so what I really wanted to see in tonight's ride was a good tempo session. And that's about exactly what it worked out to be.

Much improved from yesterday

Mark EWERS's picture

I must have slept well last night or something. I know I didn't sleep all that long, stayed up too late and Moe wouldn't let me sleep in, so it must have been a good sleep. Yesterday's ride was short. That probably helped too. Whatever the reason, the ride I couldn't quite pull off on the 4th didn't slow me down much today.

Unit stopped in yesterday to pick up his wheels and get in a little riding. We were short of time so a little riding was all we had time for. It was just as well. I was stinking up the trails with my poor performance anyway. An hour in I started to come around a little, which probably did a lot to keep me upright and avoid injury, but there was no freshness to be found. Not in my system. Not yesterday.

The workout - 2x20 intervals

Mark EWERS's picture

2x20 intervals power chart with 1-minute smoothingI'll have to go check my workout log book, but I think it must be at least a year and a half since I've done an outdoor 2x20 interval session. It might even be that long since I've done one indoors.

I met up with Bobber early this morning to head over to a park near his place where we could do a 2x20 session together. The circuit he has mapped out is a bit under 2.5 miles, so three laps makes for a decent 20 minute interval.

Golf beats work but not riding

Mark EWERS's picture

How much TSS do I award myself for 18 holes of golf?

Yeah, probably not very much. Unless maybe if you factor in the sore muscles and sunburn. That's gotta count for something. Oh, and the blisters too. Golf. It's OK I guess. As long as you don't have ride to go on. Plus it beats working. Now, if I could get paid for playing golf... Nah, it still wouldn't beat out riding.

Earlier is better

Mark EWERS's picture

This is amazing. As long as I've lived in these parts the standard "30% chance of scattered thundershowers" forecast has always meant "You might see some clouds this afternoon. Other than that, have a great ride." I must have missed the announcement where they turned that upside down.

Good thing for me I got mine before the tempest. This morning was perfect for a ride. When the thunder started rumbling in the distance it was time to head for the barn. Just like yesterday, but this time without quite as much thunder and lightening.

Most painful 30 miles

Mark EWERS's picture

I gotta tell you, I don't think I've ever ridden with so much pain. Ever. The effects of last night's weights session are in full force today. I hope they are anyway. I really don't what to think of how bad it would feel if it actually got worse.

It hurts to sit down. It hurts to stand up. It hurts to walk.

I probably should have just gone for a nice walk today too. I wanted to ride though. I wanted to ride for two reasons. First, I figured it couldn't hurt to move those muscles around and let them pump out the bad stuff. Usually my sore muscles feel better after a ride. (It didn't work this time.) Second, I wanted to see what sort of dismal wattages I'd produce with my legs screaming in pain.
