TSS

700 club

Mark EWERS's picture

Sweet! Today I'm somewhere I haven't been in a while - the 700 club. TSS, that is. A little bit over a hundred a day - on average - for the last seven days. I'd have to go back quite a long time to find the last time I managed that trick.

Being out of town on travel turned last week into a fairly light week. TSB went nicely positive, so you might say I hit the ground running this week. And you all thought I wasn't riding just because I wasn't posting. Never happen. Never!

Here's how the week went down:

Sunday - Recovery. Needed that bad after those two days chasing Unit around on the trails.
Monday - Tempo. Stretch out those legs. Ease 'em back into the idea of doing some work.
Tuesday - Hammered some hills. That was a good workout. The top 60 minutes were worth 100.5 TSS.
Wednesday - Steady state L5. You better believe that hurt after those hills.
Thursday - A little recovery, plus some core strength stuff. Can't neglect that stuff, but boy did it make me sore.
Friday - A short tempo ride.
Saturday - Sweet spot, but the hills pushed VI to 1.13. IF for the ride came in at a respectable 0.903, which sort of surprised me given how rough the week's been.

Training is going well. When does the season start?

Oh, and in case you're interested, here's a picture of my ride today:

How much power does it take to win a Cat 5 road race?

Mark EWERS's picture

Honestly, I don't know. But I can tell you how much power it takes to get second place in a Category 5 Road Race. The guy who did win didn't have a power meter on his bike. He's about ½ my age and weighs at least 20 pounds less than I do. Power-to-weight, he had me beat cold. In terms of raw power, we might have been pretty close.

Why I think classifying and visualizing TSS is pointless

wattage surface chartSo I've been watching this thread entitled Visualization of TSS Composition. I don't know if you can view that link without signing up for wattage, sorry if not. Then again, if you're reading this you're probably already signed up on wattage. Or you should be.

Monday night group ride

cyclingpeaks software power distribution chartPhil and I headed north last evening to meet up with Steve and Jody and about a hundred other cyclists for the Monday night Meuller Park ride. Meuller Park is a soccer park located in the flood plain between the Missouri and Mississippi rivers north of St. Louis. Every Monday cyclists gather there for a 28 mile ride. Several groups go off at various times. The maing fast training group lined up and rolled out last night at 6pm.

Hotter'n hell alright

Mark EWERS's picture

103 degrees in the shadeYeoww baby it was a hot one out there today. Looks like Unit was among the few around who braved it and went out in it. He must be a mad dog, because he's no Englishman.

Me, I stayed off my bike and got some needed rest. These old legs have been feeling a bit overdone lately. They didn't argue at all at the prospect of taking an entire day off.

Total relaxation for a change. Sometimes you just gotta have it.
