Trainer Zen

You know the feeling? It's sort of like pedaling with a tailwind, or sheltered in a nice sized group. You're clicking along at a nice rate of speed and just giving the pedals a light but firm tap each revolution.

Only thing is, I wasn't in a group and I'm sure I don't have a tailwind in my basement.

Maybe it's because it's Friday, or maybe it's that prospects for a warmer weekend look good. Whatever. Tired as I was starting out, after 20 minutes everything came together and I found myself in trainer zen.

My wattage was right on target for the entire 40 km session. Good solid work, but no suffering. Tempo. CTL building.

FTP test coming up soon. I think I may see some good numbers.

I hear you

I have only vague estimates of my power production, but I know what you mean. Some days I just know that I am stronger. When you find yourself pushing a bigger than normal gear on a trainer, you know it can not be attributed to much else.

The difference is

The difference for me is I know what power looked like. (Yeah, you have a decent read on power too now.) That's why I'm optimistic about testing Function Threshold Power.

As it is, I was ticking along within 10% of FTP while PE was telling me I was a slacker. I wish I could feel like that a couple of times every week.

You seem to be the only one who does not realize how strong you are. Those of us who have ridden with you for a few years know that you are continuously getting stronger...and somehow managing to defy nature in the process. Someday your body will get the memo that it is supposed to get weaker as it ages....perhaps when you hit your 60s?

au contraire

Actually I know exactly how strong I am. :) or rather how strong my powermeter tells me I am.
