Trainer Camp

I keep reading all these cycling news headlines about such-and-so's team training camp. Wouldn't it be nice to up and go to some place warm and dry, just to train with your buddies? OK, maybe some aren't your buddies. Teammates, whatever. Warm, that's the point.

Me, our team's training camp is scheduled the middle of next month. It doesn't look like I'll be along this year though. Too bad for me. I had a great time at last year's camp.

The scenery, the camaraderie, all that free time just to ride and chat and sleep. And eat. There's nothing like riding 4-6 hours per day to stoke your appetite.

Rereading that last paragraph, I think I've described the perfect vacation. It's got everything any normal person would want in the ideal getaway, plus it's all about bikes. What could possibly be better for a cyclist?

I wish I could go, but sadly I have other obligations that weekend. I hope the weather is good for them that weekend; just as I hope the weather is good for those of us who can't be along.

Lately the prospect of yet another day in my own personal trainer gulag has me feeling, shall we say, less than super motivated? I do hope by the time my teammates are pedaling long miles in the warm sun together I'll be at least once able to hear that wonderful rubber on asphalt sound again.
