Tough weekend here

Sunday afternoon. As I type this the little weather icon in my tool bar is alternating a black flashing 78.1°F and a red flashing Alert! I hover over the alert and I'm told we're under a winter storm watch tomorrow. Oh that's grand.

Wow, what a couple of days we've had here. Beautiful weather, if not a little windy. I took every possible advantage of it.

No riding though. I have not been on a bike since Froze Toes last weekend. The first part of the week was my business trip. I've been sick with the flu since then. Mostly I lay around and cough, trying to stay as comfortable as possible.

Spending the weekend recuperating hasn't been as bad as I might have imagined. When else could I bear to lay around napping or watching TV all weekend long?. When you're sick the best thing you can do is nothing at all. Just take it easy. I think I even fell asleep writing this post.

I'm pretty sure I couldn't stand another weekend like this one. Not any time soon.

Love Hate.

I hear you. I hate being sick, but at the time (when you are sick and feeling worst) I love being in bed...there is no place I would rather be.

Recovering sucks, but the few times I was dumb enough to try and force being well...I ended up feeling way worse...if you gotta feel bad, there is no better place to do it than your bed!

No Flu

No flu at my household. Vit D, Vit C works (knock on wood).

I was at Wallgreens the other day and noticed that they are selling 1000 IU vit D capsules now too. I wonder why? ;)

Got some Vitamin D

I got a good dose of vitamin D the other day, right outside my back door. Now I'm looking out there at the same spot where I soaked up all that sun. I can't see it because it's under a foot of snow.

I guess that dose of Vitamin D will have to last me a while.

Good Dose?

How do you define a good dose? The only way to know for sure is to get a 25 hydroxy vitamin D blood test. But what you do know is that it is still winter. Even on a sunny day, you will not get much in St. Louis which is at about 38 degrees latitude. It's all about the angle of the sun. And that angle is more acute the further north you live in the late fall, winter, and early spring months. That acute angle means less intense rays and little vitamin D synthesis. How long did you stay out? Did your skin turn pink at all? If not, very unlikely that you got any vitamin D synthesis. Now think of how many days you have gone without any vitamin D being produced in your body. In St. Louis, it is very likely you are deficient without supplementing.
