Saturday was the second of four cyclocross races in Illinois sponsored by Wild Trak Bikes, Gear Up, and Pride, Inc. I missed the first race of the year due to a commitment to race in Hermann, but with no "Burnin' issues" on the calendar, I was definitely making the race in Godfrey, IL.

Sometimes, the plan backfires...

Saturday night, Hermann Under the Lights, while not a peak performance from a racing standpoint it's THE race to race in our short cross season. Oddly enough, the event is only in it's second year and it's at the top on the pleasure and pain meter. Jeff Yielding does it up right with his course layouts and his treatment of the racers and spectators.

To Be Slow, You Must Feel Slow

This week was a recovery week but Saturday was a scheduled TT day to assess my overall fitness. I actually knocked the cobwebs off on a late Friday ride and actually felt really good on the bike. I did several form sprints in preparation for Saturday and recall thinking, "I feel great, so let's see what tomorrow brings."

Build Up, Tear Down

This past week was a tough one. Not tough from the training perspective, but tough on the mind. It started 1 week ago when I joined the Monday night ride in St. Charles and promptly got dropped 10 miles in the 30 mile ride. That pop of the cork left me to TT for 20 miles at a pace north of 20mph and served as the first slice of humble pie.
