Man what a day for a ride. Temperature, humidity and even the wind were just about perfect here. You could hardly order up a better day for a ride. The boys and girls who turned out for the Castlewood race had near perfect conditions too, I'm sure. Those trails are pretty resilient. No doubt some spots still had enough moisture to get the bikes dirty but for the most part I imagine even the racers are toasting a great day's racing.
I wish I'd been there too. When I woke up this morning I knew it wasn't going to happen though. The fun and excitement of racing might have overcome the stiffness and soreness from my work the other day but all I could really envision for myself this morning was something a lot longer and a lot less intense.
After ticking off all my Saturday morning to-dos I had a quick bite for lunch and loaded up my road machine. I wanted low stress, so I drove me and my bike over to the nearby park and rode around and around. Boring, yes, but in the park I can jam on ipod tunes and watch the scenery go by. I smiled and waved to everyone I saw. I'd call it just about the perfect way to spend the afternoon.
That's not to say it was a fully laid back afternoon though. Babler park is known for it's hills. Because I knew I'd be descending one particularly steep pitch with a nice long run at the bottom, I brought my camera along for a little movie action. Unfortunately the memory card filled up before this descent was over but it gives you a sense of how fast this hill is.
Oh, and of course I took extra care to stay below the safe speed limit at all times.
