I knew it was too good to last. Those old familiar back pains are back again.
It's my own fault for letting those core strength workouts slide. Who wants to lift and bend and stretch when you can go outside and ride your bike? How easy it is to get out of the habit when the weather turns nice.
It started as just a little reminder one morning. As of this past week it had become more of a constant reminder - that old familiar dull pain low on the left side.
I don't think it will keep me off the bike. At least I'm not planning to let it keep me off the bike.
We'll see how it goes. Take it one day at a time, as it were. Plus I'll have to look for a way to reintegrate the core strength training. Now that should prove painful. Sore muscles... I can't wait!
Speaking of core strength workouts, I got a good one in yesterday hauling wood. Branches, actually. Part of my morning was a tree trimming session. It's amazing how much core strength work you can create for yourself simply by using a chainsaw for 15 minutes.
I hesitate to say this...
I think one of the reasons that I feel like I am riding so much better lately (that is a relative comparison, BTW) has everything to do with my core workouts (yeah, I know, big shock). The part that I am hesitant to mention is, the driving force getting me back to the core program is the Nintendo Wii Fit. That thing is fun, and it keeps me training my core.
Wii Fit
OK I am almost convinced to get Wii Fit .... :)
God knows I need more Core workouts
You know
Sorry to stray way off subject, but here goes.
I have to be honest. Lately my life outside of work and family is about the path that most clearly leads to pleasure. Booze might seem like a short cut to some, but the guilt gets to me...so there *is* a component of leisure that must cater to my *fitness*.
That said, this video game I got for my kids offers absolutely nothing that can not be otherwise done with a simple timer and a bit of enthusiasm. I found that I neglected my core training until I tried it. It is fun, and it makes me sweat and ache. It is also a lot more affordable than a personal trainer (which sounds far less appealing to me).
May be I should have done my own little post here (but due to lack of cycling content, this seems appropriate). The bottom line or obvious message here is: We all know what is best for us, but distractions jump in the way. My recommendation is to find a way to do what is best (or at least "good") and do it in a way that will form a habit (keep it fun).
OK done preaching....everyone get on your core workouts, you will appreciate it as it starts paying off!
I feel you
I too have laid off the core workouts. It's been a couple months off now... And it's paid off wonderfully. I'm climbing much slower, my power is down, my endurance sucks, and best of all, I have a nice little pooch on my belly. Yup, if I just continue drinking beer like I have been, and continue my hiatus from core workouts, I should have a drink holder in no time. Just kick back in the recliner and lay that beer right on that belly... It's always been my dream.
