I spent a few minutes this afternoon designing a new interval protocol for myself. When I was done designing it, I saddled up on the trainer and put the interval protocol to the test.
I made it through the session, establishing an important data point. That is, I found there really is a whole world of interval workouts out there that can be accomplished as long as they're designed right.
The trick, of course, is to make them look so hard on paper that you have doubts about successfully completing them; but not so hard that you can't.

There it is people. My first real honest-to-goodness 2x20 interval session of the 2008 season. Well sort of. The intervals aren't all that well executed. But as they say, it's the thought that counts.
I didn't start out planning to do 2x20 intervals today. That's why the first one starts out so lame and slowly builds into a proper wattage. Then again, you could just say I negative split them. Yeah, I think I'll go with that.

I don't know where I got the idea for this litle gem. I suppose my mind was thinking 2x20 intervals and base work all at once. Of course they don't really go together, right?
Not only that, but when you mash them together you end up with a pretty mundane workout. Something like 60-70 TSS points is all you get out of a workout like that. Hard to call that base. It's hard to call that much of anything.

So I've been watching this thread entitled Visualization of TSS Composition. I don't know if you can view that link without signing up for wattage, sorry if not. Then again, if you're reading this you're probably already signed up on wattage. Or you should be.

Wouldn't it be great if you could go out every day and do a personal best? That's the great thing about measuring power output, you almost can. There are so many potential personal bests to set, you can, and probably should go out and try to set a PB every time you ride.
Every time you ride hard, that is. Let's not forget those recovery rides.

Wow. What happened to yesterday? Here it is Sunday already. My weekend's about done. Saturday came and went so fast it feels like I missed it completely.
Of course waking up late and in a fog this morning does little to help matters. I was out way too late last night. A long evening to end an action packed day.
