Sunburn in October?

I managed to get on the bike for a bit today. I went to the usual place for some single track and some tech riding.

I had no idea that it *would* have been a good idea to put on some sun block. Turns out that our 90+ degree weather has some UV rays attached...go figure. Perhaps there is something to this global warming?

I had a really fun solo ride today. Hit up all the normal sites, and for those in the know, I have been working on some new moves in the creek bed....Well, I managed to clean the entire route today (except for the tree that is about 3 feet off the ground that I can not go over or under without a dismount). It was a real feat, and it is cause for celebration. To those *not* in the know, this is a stream bed that is a mine field of boulders and ledges that I try to ride up. It is about 1000 feet long, has about 5 ledges ranging from one to a couple feet, and is (at my skill level) early impossible to ride (think trials riding). It took about 20 attempts today, but I cleaned it...time to hoist a brew. I have not worked that hard on a bike in over a month...doubt that it was worth 700 TSS points though.

On other topics...I am working more diligently toward building my KM back up to handle some of these more torturous rides (need to find a couple more parts and you will seem me on that bike a lot more). I am also going to call my graphic designer tomorrow to have some more stickers made...I will keep you posted. I have a few other silly ideas swirling around in that dome of mine too...

Oh yeah, you might be wondering why I clicked on the tubeless Tag for this post. Well, since I have torn the sidewalls out of more than a few tires lately, I have been running a tube in the rear tire...just sort of makes sense to have an added layer of protection. Well today, my front tire burped on me (again) necessitating a stop at the truck after the first loop to top off the air pressure. I think I am going to convert back to tubes semi-permanently....ebb and flow....

It seems like I went back to tubes at about this time last year too...may be there is some cycle here? Planetary alignment? Ehh, I think I just get sick of things staying the same...so I change stuff around once in a while.

Hope you had a good weekend!

UV Index

My post last week was an attempt to raise awareness. The decrease in UV B rays is not like a light switch. It doesn't just stop with the onset of fall, rather it gradually fads. As with other aspects of nutrition there is the individuality to take into consideration. You being a cyclist who will go ride at the slightest hint of good weather are more likely to pick up UV rays well into the fall months.

A little search revealed this resource which might help with determining what to expect at any particular time of the year and location.
