This year has really been interesting in regards to weather. Wednesday, we had some really choice weather with sun shine and warm temps. Every other day this week has been rain and gloom. Today was a mix of sleet, snow and hail with gusty wind under an overcast sky.
The perfect opportunity to get out and experience what will surely be the most unpleasant riding conditions of April 2008.
Little needs to be said about the ride. It was typical. You can not ride around here without dealing with steep climbs, so we made sure that we incorporated some of the steepest and longest climbs around (such as the Twall).
"We", you ask? Yes "we". G-wiz came to town to give me one of the coolest coffee cups in my collection (The Ouachita Challenge handed them out this year). I plan on filling it several times tomorrow...yes, I am a coffee junkie.
So G blew both tires on my red bike (the one he is saving his pennies to buy) so he rode his Kona today. I took to my Litespeed, and did my best to punish him in his weakened state (you may recall he tried to hurt himself yesterday).
Today offered a good cruise for both of us.
I really enjoyed the ride. I do not recall ever having ever ridden in such conditions. The sting of sleet on your face is really exhilarating. It may sound nutty, but it made us feel alive. That was good, because between the wind and the layers of clothing, I was not feeling very lively.
