I went for a ride last night and met up with a friend and training partner that I have not ridden with in a week or so. Jason was quiet like always so I asked if he was planning to ride easy (hoping to convince him to lay down arms). Normally Jason and I enjoy thrashing each other to pulp when we ride together, but last night both of us were not afraid to admit that we need some easy riding for a while.

Jason has been tearing up the race scene and is staring the category upgrade in the eye. I think he is more than ready, but he makes some good points for staying put until mid-season next year. I suppose all his recent results are taking a toll on him and he now is ready for some easy and enjoyable saddle time.
Ewers truly on the other hand has not been tearing up the criterium scene, but is in need of some "passion" riding regardless. I can point to a few possible contributors, but regardless of the cause I feel like I am towing a bus every time I try and boost the pace...so why fight it?
I wish I had some brilliance to bestow upon you this morning, but lately there just is not much brilliant going on in my cycling life. I am at a point of looking forward to cooler fall and winter riding. It sounds crazy, but the idea of riding/training just hard enough to stay warm/comfortable is appealing...and it tends to pay dividends in my form and strength. The warm august mornings are great, but I am looking forward to lovingly embrocating my legs as I sip my morning coffee...then rolling out for the butter-burner rides (long steady tempo).
embro season is THE BEST
bar none. Love the temps, love the smells, love the burn.
Amen brother Boz!
I dunno what I like best the crisp air, the sounds, the smells...or the ritual of preparation!
regardless
it's a damn fine season for sure. Just something about the contrast of the crisp, cool air against the spicy pop your legs have under a fresh coating of the juice. The smells and the sounds are the icing on the cake.
