Let me start by saying that I rode my trainer again today...on a road bike...with gears. As some may have heard, I have been in and out of illness for the past 3 weeks...and these illnesses were not to be taken lightly.
While riding today, my thoughts were not occupied by what many might expect (how utterly crappy I felt riding a trainer, indoors, while not fully recovered from a four day bout with the flu). I was sucking wind, and suffering much more than anyone should while producing such a small amount of power (don't get me wrong), but I was not dwelling on that fact...I was thinking of something else.
Rather my thoughts were completely absorbed in preponderance of the likes of Bob Roll who served as support for top pros in grand tours, and managed to complete multiple stages (and make the time cuts) while riding with the virus. If you have never read Bob's book (Bobke), you should probably check it out (I mean, if you are reading this, you will REALLY like his stuff). There are numerous other pros who document riding with the virus in order to support their teams on blogs, interviews, etc...and they all are amazing.
Mind you, I am not the type to go around idolizing pros (especially Bob Roll), but sometimes I can not help but offer a bit of respect to anyone so dedicated to their job that they show up and deliver a performance while sick (that I could not deliver on my best day).
Stay well, and keep rolling!
