Rain day musings

This time of can be tough. The days are shorter, the weather is often non-cooperative, and the race season for many of us is over. I try not to let is bug me much.

Yesterday was POUNDING rain most of the day around here. I do not fear getting a little wet when I ride, but when visibility drops below 5 feet it seems far-beyond-pointless. But I rode anyway...on the rollers.

I share this information today because I think it may prove useful to some people (especially when next year rolls around).

I like to eat...I mean I *really* like to eat. And I like to eat the good stuff. Last night for example, I was served lasagna lovingly made by my wife from locally produced spicy Italian sausage and about five kinds of cheese. Then for desert I indulged in home made apple pie (a big piece). I have to do something to support this lifestyle, otherwise I will start out 2010 twenty pounds heavier than I am now...and I like to kick ass on the hills!

My motivation for riding during this time of the year is to have fun, and to support my eating. When I can get outside I enjoy the passions I have mused about over the years on this blog. When I cannot get outside, I pull out the rollers or trainer and put on some music. My motivation is to burn some calories that I intend to replenish with a smile.

Short of our seasons being out of phase, riding which allows for eating is the best. After 2 hours of hammering my s/s with 3 others on geared bikes, I ate a monsterous meal of seafood gumbo, a ham/cheese sandwich, homemade potato chips, apricot/white chocolate muffin, and a Schlafy Oktoberfest beer. Didn't blink an eye and it was all gone, too! All of that was consumed at the Lone Wolf Coffee Co. Gotta support the team.

Sounds like your dinner was a little better because it was homemade. Those always taste better!
