Yesterday I had the pleasure of working as an official at the inaugural Tour de Grove in (where else but) the Grove section of St. Louis. Now, I wasn't one of the officials who spent their day in the shaded and sheltered start/finish area. I was the lowly official set off to the back side of the course to man pit #2.

Let's see, how can I best describe this race???

THE COURSE:
1. Zero flat sections. I'm not kidding either. None, zip, zilch, nada.

2. A LOT of off-camber.

3. Spongy and soft with a fair amount of thick-bladed grass. Can you imagine riding a bike across a water bed? If you can also imagine riding a bike across blankets wadded up on a water bed you really get the idea.

I'm contemplating busting out the singlespeed cx bike for this weekend and racing not only the s/s class race, but the B race immediately afterwards. I figure if I'm looking to build some form in short order, as well as have fun what better way than to get two races in an afternoon.

I have found myself engaging in a lot of discussions regarding rules lately. The sport of cycling seems pretty simple, yet there are an astronomical amount of rules.

This weekend will be my 5th weekend of racing cross in 2009. This weekend will also produce the 5th different team kit for me so far this year. Let's recap. Bearcat Cross, I raced for ICCC. Hermann Under the Lights, Mesa Cycles. Pride/Gear Up Cross in Godfrey, Lone Wolf Coffee Company. Bubba Cross at Faust Park, Hammer Nutrition.

....I'm done. At least for this week's race, I'm done. I need to heal the ribs and not abuse them like I did in yesterday's race. Unwisely, I decided to heed the advice of my friends and teammates to "harden up" and entered (and finished) the B race yesterday. In hindsight, not the smartest decision for me.
