JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold an open-house public meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 15 to gather input about plans to construct a pedestrian/bicycle attachment on the U.S. 54 Eastbound/U.S. 63 Northbound Missouri River Bridge.
The purpose of the project is to provide a safer connection from the Katy Trail to downtown Jefferson City.
The public may attend the meeting any time between 4-6:30 p.m. at the North Jefferson City Multipurpose Building located at 810 Sandstone Drive. To reach this location, exit U.S. 54/U.S. 63 at Route W and turn left onto Cedar City Drive. From Cedar City Drive turn left onto Fourth Street and then left onto Sandstone Drive. The meeting location is accessible to the physically disabled.
Work on the attachment could begin in late spring 2010 and will take about a year to complete. The construction will require lane closures on the bridge. The Main Street ramp to U.S. 54 Eastbound/U.S. 63 Northbound may close for extended periods. Plans for managing traffic during the construction will be discussed at the meeting. Commuters are encouraged to attend to learn about plans for managing traffic during construction.
The project will cost approximately $7 million to construct. The Missouri Department of Transportation, City of Jefferson, Department of Natural Resources, and the Missouri State Parks Foundation are funding the project.
