Yesterday was a day off the bike, but a day on for working the core. I have a handful of exercises I do to keep my midsection in shape to hold the rest of me in check.

One of my favorite exercises is the plank. This is a very simple form, but it works the core very well. You simply get into position to do a push up, except you lower your upper body and rest on your elbows instead of your hands. Simply (ha ha) hold that position for a few minutes (you should use a timer to monitor progress).
Keep everything static, allow no movement, and keep your midsection straight (do not cheat by putting your butt way up in the air).
My kids like to play around me while I do my core work. It is a good time. I do a couple other exercises too, but I thought I would focus on one exercise per post.
I used to think that core stuff was a waste of time better spent on the bike. Now that I do core work, I am riding better than ever. Coincidence?
