I'll keep this report simple. I finally raced again. Pfoodman's Dirt Crit, week 4. The conditions were tough...muddy, slick corners, wet roots, creek crossing, wet grass. In short, a perfect Belgian cyclocross course.

To Be Slow, You Must Feel Slow

This week was a recovery week but Saturday was a scheduled TT day to assess my overall fitness. I actually knocked the cobwebs off on a late Friday ride and actually felt really good on the bike. I did several form sprints in preparation for Saturday and recall thinking, "I feel great, so let's see what tomorrow brings."

Dirt to Boz, "Where have you been?"

Yesterday I took the opportunity to head over to the 'wood and roll the trails for 90 minutes or so. This ride marked the first time back on the mtb following my shoulder separating crash in January. I decided to take the Niner s/s (which was also the bike I crashed on) so the ride had some significance in my return to the dirt.

Not all the way home

My body may have returned from vacation, but my form still has not.

I have been sleeping pretty good lately, but I was still dragging my tail around work today. I figured it might prove interesting to do some testing. I hit the rollers today with a crystal clear plan for what sort of workout to do. Basically, I would warm up and then work up the block quickly to maximum resistance then ride it to failure (this is a bit of a trick because you can not totally fail on rollers without crashing).

So basically I ramped up and rode until the RPE told me that any longer would result in a crash, at which time I shifted to an easier gear and spun for a couple songs. Then repeat several times.
