I don't think it quite made it to 50° here today, so not even the bright sunshine could make it actually feel warm. Especially not when you're moving.
All the same, days like this aren't to be wasted. This was a gift and I've always believed that when given a gift, the best thing to do is to say thank you and try it out.
I hammered around the hills near my house today. I saw maybe 2 other guys out riding. I sighted one of them about half-way up a long climb, maybe a minute ahead of me. The chase was on.
I caught him near the top and told him I'd buried myself to catch up with him. His reply that people don't usually have to work real hard to catch him climbing reminded me of, well, me. I decided right there he was OK. If he'd allow me, I'd ride along and turn toward home about a mile up the road.
I'm glad I did, and I'm glad he accommodated me. If not, I would have missed a brief but tremendously interesting conversation with a 60 year-old RAAM qualifier. You just never know when or where you'll encounter greatness out there on the road.
