Odd Weekend

This past weekend was odd. That may be what made is so good.

First off, Mark came to town to make a transaction with me and go for a ride. The transaction was simple enough, I needed to give him a calibration weight for his power meter that I fabricated for him. I will leave the explanation of that to him if he chooses to post photos. Basically, it is a very heavy brick of lead...and that in and of itself is odd...that a cyclist who spends money on lightweight parts and diets such that he is not carrying additional body weight would have a need for a heavy weight to attach to said bicycle. Odd but not really I guess.

Second, the weather made an abrupt change for the better this weekend and permitted Mark and I to ride comfortably in what I typically would wear in July. If this is a sign that spring is here, I am more than ready. It just seemed odd that it went from poo to plush in one week...I am skeptical.

Finally, I got to get out for a second ride Sunday with Jason and was outright threatened by a gang of motorcyclists. This seemed odd since in past every encounter with motorcyclists (particularly the leather-clad loud-piped variety) has been very positive. I had assumed that the joy of riding the open road on two wheels was the common thread...perhaps the similar plight we share against the angry motorists that refuse to see us or give us adequate space? Regardless, this was an odd encounter. These guys took turns doing their best to put us in the ditch. I found this to be odd since, these guys probably have at some point dealt with the same treatment from larger vehicles. Further odd, that they choose to pass the aggravation on to others.

Regardless, I had a great weekend and enjoyed some long rides in the mild weather.

Shrug off the aggravation, and pass on the joy. Spring must be nearing, time to get pumped for some good riding!
