This is not a test

Today ended up being one of those consummate indoor training kind of days. My hat is off to anyone who got out on the road to ride today around here. You might not have gotten cold, but you got wet.

I stayed indoors. Mostly because I'm a total weenie when it comes to cleaning up after a ride in the rain; but also because I wanted to do a not-really-test session.

The timing was right. I just calibrated my SRMs. My legs are reasonably fresh from the holiday affected training (and diet) routine of late. And as noted, the weather sucked. And OK, a test, any test at all, was long overdue here.

The non-test protocol I used was simply a 2x20 minutes interval session using Perceived Exertion as my primary guide. Further, the idea was to keep PE reasonably comfortable. After all, it's December for cryin' out loud. The last thing I want is hard work this time of year.

See, I told you this was a non-test test.

The way I figure it, if I could make a reasonably decent wattage for a not-too-hard 2x20 interval session - something in the low threshold area for instance - it would give me a sense for how well all this sweet spot training has been helping.

Results weren't bad. Without really trying hard I'm within 5-6% from some of my best ever 2x20 sessions.

I guess I'll keep doing what I'm doing. It seems to be working just fine.

the weather was pretty

the weather was pretty decent at 10:30-12:30 in the morning,(teeshirt and shorts) just hitting the front end of the big weather that moved in after that, and it worked out to be one of those happy days where i caught the south wind heading north in the morning, then rode the west wind home late tonight, and somehow felt fast even for the into the wind parts.
