That is what they always told me. It is not "if" you will crash, it is a matter of "when" you crash. Simply put, if you ride a bike long enough, eventually you will find the pavement with your flesh.
I have to tell you. I have ridden many bikes for many years. I started on BMX, eventually I got into MTB, and road bikes. I have even played with unicycles. I have crashed many times in various manners. I have broken bones, had concussions, crashed off of my rollers (many times), been knocked down at low speed on the road, even been hit by a few cars (all low speed encounters down town), but until yesterday I never had a high speed road bike crash.
I think that the pain and expense of this crash trumps every prior crash experience. This was a surprise to me. Road rash on top of deep bruising seems to be far worse than a broken bone. That is probably owing to my age when I broke bones (11, and 13 years old). Older bodies seem to suffer pain more than younger bodies, I guess.

Here is a fuzzy picture I talked someone in the ER into snapping for me. I fear the repair bill on my bike...I asked someone to take it to the LBS for repairs (I cannot walk due to the hip trauma...typing is a one-hand effort too).
Crashing sucks, avoid it if you can.
sorry, man, feel your pain.
sorry, man, feel your pain. now thats dedication to your fellow man, keeping up your blog. i guess now would be a good time to say i enjoy reading it. heal well.
Day Three
I crashed on Friday, and now it is Sunday. Friends, this sucks! I have finally healed enough to hobble from my bed to the kitchen without intense pain. The road rash is not nearly as big of a problem as the shot I took to my right hip. Evidently I pulled a few muscles in my neck too.
Sleeping can be done in only one position, but at least I am sleeping at night.
I have not heard from my mechanic yet, but I expect he will touch bases with me well before I feel up to riding again.
I have been entertaining myself with writings and photos from InterBike. Some day I need to go to that show!
Heal Well
Ken, sorry to hear about your crash. Mark told me about it last night when I called to say I couldn't make the golf tournament. He said it was off due to your crash. Man, you're right it is just a question of "when, not if." I'll keep you in my prayers and hope you have a speedy recovery.
Thanks for the kind words
I am feeling much better. I am now able to walk with a big limp. The road rash really is not the hard part with this crash...though it is going to be hard to get dressed and return to work.
BTW, Tegaderm is wonderful stuff. If you have never heard of it/used it...go get some today, before you need it!
