My weekend started off pretty lousy in terms of cycling (I was unable to ride Friday or Saturday), but things got a lot better today. Last night I got word from Jason that his Sunday schedule was as wrecked as mine and he was interested in squeezing in a ride somehow.

Fantastic! Most of the other potential ride partners would be training early in the morning and avoiding the sunniest/hottest portion of the mid-August day. Turns out that rolling out at noon was not so bad today. If this is global warming...sign me up!
I took along the video camera today...I guess that is the big news. Unfortunately, this thing has great resolution, so you can see quite clearly how steadily I can not hold it. Anyway, here is a very chopped up video for your enjoyment. I could edit this thing and make it a bit better, but the filming will still leave you nauseous so why bother? There are 4 clips in here:
1. Jason
2. The typical view of Jason (he is a strong guy who will pull more than his share on most rides)
3. Descending Scott Station Road
4. Descending Nine Hills (first hill)
Yeah, like I said the video is pretty hard to watch on a full stomach, but you perhaps get a feel for how nice the day was, and how fun some of these roads can be.
There is little hope for capturing the real feel of a ride like this. The route was 102 kilometers, but incorporated (I think) every hill in the area (some twice). We held a comfortable pace, but toward the end of the ride we were questioning our pacing a bit (at least I was). There was a considerable amount of climbing on this route (did I mention that already?). I am one tired pup and I think I will sleep pretty well tonight...and have earned a nice feast for later this evening. Good stuff!
Like I told Jason, I have been convinced numerous times that there are people faster/stronger/quicker/etc. than me, but I have yet to have anyone convince me that they enjoy the ride more!
Ah yeah
Yup. I know that descent and it's a fun one to let 'er rip on. And on a day like today you can get some good speed up. Were you able to tell how fast you got?
Hate to guess
A guy can wrap up a pretty solid top speed on those hills but with one hand covering the brake and the other failing to hold the camera steady, I forgot to peak at the computer. I was not hammering (or even pedaling much) so it really was not all that fast.
