I took my monkey for a walk in the woods today

Some days you have it and some days you don't. And then there are days like the one I had today. The unit today told me that a singlespeed bike actually has three gears - coasting, cranking and walking. I spent a significant amount of time today in that third gear.

I suppose the comment I made to my earlier post about getting tossed off my monkey was some kind of eerie clairvoyance. I'm more bruised and bloody today than I've been in months. I managed to fall down in places where no one should fall. I fell in several where it's kind of expected too, but it's the silly ones that stick with you.

It's all on the Mary bars. Well no, not really. To be fair I know a lot of my lack of everything needed to ride well today isn't completely attributable to the new bars. I will say though, the setup most definitely has a different feel to it. The difference in handling was much more than I expected; and I had trouble finding the leverage I needed grinding out the climbs. This was particularly true in really technical uphill sections. They'll take some getting used to.

On the plus side, I have just about zero of the thumb, wrist and elbow pain I'd get from long days on the straight bars. And that, friends, is a big plus.

Over time I know I'll get used to the new handling characteristics. The joint pain on the other hand just gets worse with time. I think I made the right move even at the cost of a day of blood, bruises and a lot of walking in the woods.

That was a blast

Two awesome trails in one day! That was some serious riding! Don't sell yourself, your bars, or your riding short...that was a lot of riding on some tough trails. Given the week you have had, I would say a those new beauty marks on your legs were simply a result of fatigue setting in.

Folks dont let him fool ya, 2 old rides better than a lot of kids I know that are half his age!

Chubb Trail

The Chubb Trail is my all-time favorite. It's got some heinously hard sections but hey if it didn't then I wouldn't go there because everyone else would be riding it all the time.
