I-64 TT photos

Here are a few of the better photos from yesterday's I-64 timetrial.

I've never done a race - any bike race - that had so many people around to watch and cheer. Granted many of them were out there doing their own bike fun ride, but I think the race captured their attention and drew them in as spectators. Whatever the reason, I think everyone who tested themselves yesterday appreciated the fan support. It's something you never expect in a timetrial.

Old guys

That's me on the right. Not quite so old guy Joe Walsh is there on the left. Still no results this morning, but my money says Joe took the Masters 40+ category we both raced. If there had been a 50+ I'd have raced there to stay away from Joe. He's a monster on a TT bike.

Starting with a smile?

There I am lined up and ready to go. My 30 second man is on the line right now. Nervous? I probably should be. Maybe it's all the people around. This is nothing like any TT I've done before. This is fun. Serious fun.

The race venue

This is why it was so much fun. Eight lanes of virgin highway, two of them dedicated to the TT, and the rest reserved for fans and fun. No cars. There were literally thousands of people out there along the course yesterday.

Of course the weather could have had something to do with it. As I mentioned before, the temperatures were in the 50's. The wind was steady in the 20+ mph range, and some of the gusts would nearly blow you off your bike. But that's a lot better than the frigid cold and ice we woke up to today.
