People must have been looking for a reason to get out and ride last night. There were too many names to count on the front of the sign-in sheet; and the back of the page was about half full. Maybe we all knew about the lousy weather coming in for the next morning and wanted to get a ride in before it settled in. Maybe we just wanted to take advantage of an opportunity to ride on a clear and cold evening.
Whatever the reason, we rang out November in style. November's Castlewood night ride was practically standing room only. A hot ticket on a cold night.
As for me, I don't know when I've ridden much better. My legs felt good. Climbing was a breeze - well, as much of a breeze as climbing gets on a singlespeed 29er. Descending - I had it going on last night. Is there something about descending in the dark for me that makes me faster? Maybe it just seems that way because it's dark. I'll say this though, last night was the first time it occurred to me my lights might not be illuminating far enough ahead.
It was also the first time I dressed a little cooler than conditions called for. Live and learn. So I was a bit cold for a while. I rode a little harder and warmed myself up.
Biggest regret: No photos. That I'd left my camera home was my first realization as I pulled into the parking lot. So there's always next time. December 21st. I'll be there, and so will my camera.
yes....
Yes the air is thinner. Less humidity, and crisper air allows you to travel faster with less effort...you still have to be concerned with going so fast that you burn up on re-entry though.
Seriously though, night riding always feels fast for me. Times reveal that my pace is about the same as daylight, but the sensory deprivation makes me more aware of things...so it seems faster.
Sounds like Great ride
I find bad weather in forecast VERY motivating. It's like I know a rest day is coming so let it all hang out today
bad weather in forecast
For me that usually means a day of catching up on all those things neglected around the house. I'd rather ride!
