My motivation lately has been slipping considerably, but I think I may have found the cure?
In recent weeks I have been suffering from a fairly severe lack of motivation to train. I think this winter has lingered on just about long enough at this point!
I have been "phoning it in" so to speak when I do get on the bike by simply hopping on and grinding away at low-moderate intensity for an hour or so. It sucks, but I figured there is no real point in killing it on the rollers/trainer at this point in the season.
Yesterday was another trainer day like many others (when I started). I was really starting to hate things when I decided to try something different. On the old Kurt Kintic I decided to ascend the gears (one gear for each song) like I frequently did on my rollers.
This turned into a workout that was very dis-similar to all others lately. I went to failure, cooled down and got off. It made for a short (40 minutes) workout that probably did very little for my cardio, leg strength, endurance, etc., but I think it may have done wonders for my motivation...some times that is the best kind of workout in the grand scheme.
Grind to a halt
I like that idea. Just keep kicking up the gears until you grind to a halt. When it happens, get off and call it good. Adapt. As you get stronger the workouts will get longer, and that's a good thing.
That it provides motivation is also a good thing.
Did it again
I did the same thing again today. It hurt a lot more and did not last as long (I failed earlier).
Somehow these intense workouts are a lot more fun for me right now. I hope I can get outside one of these days!
