I won't have time to watch it (see the previous post), but today's also the Tour of Flanders. I'm resolved to catching up on it afterward though. Unlike here today, race conditions are forecast to be epic - rain, snow, hail. All that nasty stuff that you and I won't ride in because we're not paid to.
It's days like this I'm content to be blessed with ordinary genes.
Aside from the really decent weather we had there, last weekend's race, Hillsboro-Roubaix, featured about a mile of brick road. It's nowhere near as bumpy as the cobbled roads these guys will race on today. It's also nowhere near as narrow and steep. All the same, 4 circuits on the bricks gave me something of an appreciation for what these guys go through. I hope someday I can ride some of those famous Euro roads the pros race on, but I'm not absolutely sure I want to take on the Koppenberg.
Imagine
They used to race those roads without helmets!
Seeing pros pushing their bikes sort of puts it into perspective. I would probably DNF from a twisted/broken ankle during an extended pushing session!
