So I somehow managed to hit the trails at 7 45 this morning... the earliest this year, and it came with a price. My ride was exactly like units, just to bad we couldnt have cordinated times better. The best we got was some yelling back and forth in the woods.
The trails were like snot this morning, and like unit said, the rocks and roots were even worse. I started out nice and after finishing rainbow decided to head back and do the race loop. I had had enough of the cobwebs and I knew lakeside would be covered. Well on one of the downhills I managed to do the worst: wipeout. Damn, and I was doing so good. Good news is that it didnt hurt the bow one bit, bad news was it did hurt the bike. I can only relate this wreck to something like a seal sliding on its belly on ice. I measured how long the total skids were from the time I started to lose traction to the time my hands and body finally stoped sliding: 25 feet in all. Pretty impressive huh? I literally have never slid down a trail like that before, it was like a slip and slide. Some how my handlbars got all jacked around and in the process pulled my already mangled brake cable from the caliper, and worst off, it broke my pop-lock. After 30 minutes of trying to fix the front brake I gave up, and to my surprise I had a 10 foot long stream running down the trail that looked like a spring had sprung. I originally thought it was my camelback leaking but after a quick taste test it was decided it was sweat. I didnt even know someone could sweat this much.
Long story short I took it nice and slow the rest of the way and all in all it was a nice ride. I also commendered a few battle wounds today. Good news is I fixed the steering problem, it was on mark today, and the fork was much better with an extra 40 pounds of pressure. Not to mention my tires only had 20 psi yesterday... Speaking of which my mixed match set of tires ( the front is a Specialized Enduro? that originally came on the bike last year, and the back is a pos Kenda Kenetics) did about as much for traction as a dead fish does for hitting a baseball. I really need a new set but dont want to dish out the money since the new steed should be here shortly.
The rest of the day was spent getting nice and toasty down at the lake with a bunch of great friends... good times good times. Happy 4th everyone, hope yours was as awesome as mine!
I can relate...
When 2-old and I went out on one of those ice rides, we got together and slid about 50 feet...but it was not a crash, so much as trying to stand upright...that was one stupid evening...
I find a dead fish works well for hitting baseballs...you just have to freeze them first....those tires of yours on the other hand...I would guess they would be truly useless on those conditions.
Glad you were not re-injured.
Sorry we could not hook up on that ride...I think we both missed out on seeing a good show (my little incident with the tree had to be hilarious).
