Pre-Race Training

You got it,it was a hot one today. They say it actually might get hotter coming into the week. Yay! Today I had plans on going to Landahl to get a nice 3 hour ride in. Half of what will be going down next week. I just couldn't contain my excitement on the way up when my car themometer read 102. I had brought a full camelback, and a full water jug of water. I figured it would at least be good in getting me used to this weather.
Drop Zone

I fixed my shifting. I took the cable and housing apart the other day a noticed some nasty steel cables pretruding from on of the housings. I had the small peice matched and replaced with some new housing, and after some barrel adjusting got it tuned right. So I took my 29r out today which is by far the bike I'll be racing.

It was soooo hot out today, but luckily the shade from the trees actually helped. Some days it can get hotter in the woods but today was a bit better. But don't get me wrong, I was soaked in sweat by the first 15 minutes. The water I took justed lasted me today. I put in a total of 3 hours of solid riding, and by the end I was shot. This course is going to be real rough on the good ol body next weekend. It's rocky and after 3 hours of it, my back was shot. Yesterday's ride didn't help the situation out much but I still felt good today. That is until that last half hour. I got real tired, and my water ran out. But I survived, and I can tell I'll need some serious nutrition for next weekends race. Mostly it will be goo's, one today helped out a bunch. That and most likely a few banana's and who knows, maybe even a sandwich.

Ya, Right!

Here's a nice picture of the drop zone. You launch off the rock in the middle of the pic and land on the white rock at the bottom, it has a bit of a run off. I still have not rode all the trails out, and I'm amazed each time I go out. It's from the Tasty Goodness trail, right around the snake chamer section. Ride it and you see why they call it that!

That drop looks wicked.

Is it scary as all hell, or is it easier than it looks in the picture?

Looks like a good place to break something.

It is

This thing scares the crap out of me. It's one of those that doesn't look TOO bad until you roll up to it. It's a giant drop with a sketchy landing. Not something I would recommend for the faint of heart or those of us on the hardtails. There's four drops total here. One two footer which I was having alot of fun with yesterday. A two and a half footer, a 4 footer, and this beast. I would say it's ten foot from the time you leave the platform to the time you land. Sorry for the crappy pictures, you'll just have to come up and check it out for yourself! Next week?

Time of day

I think it's mostly just the time of day when you took the photo. This angle is probably the best angle for viewing the scene - I'm guessing. But unfortunately you happened to be there at the worst time of day to take the shot.

I don't see how you could ride to the drop. That rock looks like it's standing all by itself to me. Anyone for trials?
