Where the hell do I start? Today was one of those picturistic days that just couldnt of gone any better. I got a little hammered last night but still managed to wake up at 8 sharp in order to be on the streets and working by 9. Of course I had to pack half of my life into my jeep as I will be spending the remander of the week here in Jeff.
Work was good, I shot out about 3 to head to the lbs and see if the new bike was in. This was the only bad part of the day. The bike had not arrived and it seems Jamis is bullshiting on giving us a tracking number, even though they said they'd have one for us last week. So looks like it will be the ol' Rockhard I'll be racing on this weekend. These boys best not let me show them up on a singlespeed, and I'm going into it with the notion of not doing even slightly good. I plan on a nice easy ride, just to be sure I dont re-injure myself.
I got to the trails around 4 or so and suited up for a nice ride. I was chomping at the bit since this was the first time back on the trails since last weeks tobocery in which I bit it twice.
Unit was right there to meet me on the trail head, and from there it was all a dream. This is where the whole crack thing comes into play. I swear every time I ride I want to ride even more, its like I'm a fein, a fein for the trails... It was a bit hot and after the ride I rung out a 3 foot by 3 foot sweat pool from my underarmor shirt. The trails were suprisingly in awesome shape, a little soft on the corners, but overall great. Unit, your skid was quit a long one, looks pretty sweet.
I was on the rockhard today and unfortunatly had a few issues I had to deal with. The first was my fault, I was experimenting and I took out too much pressure from my Reba. This resulted in a way to plush ride and brake bob. So pretty much from right on I locked it out and rode it that way for the rest of the ride. I still managed to have it bob half of the way to the top according to my zip tie. My chain also came off twice today, something that normally doesnt happen. I'll have to have this fixed before the race for sure. The last problem was not to bad but still a pain. The steering seems to be all over the place lately with this thing. I'm thinking of taking the 130 cm stem off and putting back on the ol' Mobius which is closer to a 100. Will this slow the steering down at all? Or will it be the opposite?
I felt pretty freakin fantastic during the ride. I rode slower as I didnt want to wreck, but after a full lap my back felt good and the lungs felt even better. I was rocketing up the hills today which will be my only strong hold during the race. The elbow didn't even bother me one bit today, and as long as I don't wreck I think it will stay that way. This was the farthest trail ride I've done since the whole incident and it was great.
Tommorow I plan on heading out early to get 2 and half to 3 hours on the trails before I head down to the lake to be a lathargic lazy bastard... o happy 4th!
Yeah.
Speaking in general terms about a stem length...When you get your hands in front of the steering pivot by much it seems to make things feel a bit squirrelly. There are limits to everything, but most of the time a long stem will result in awkward handling.
OTOH, you want to fit on the bike too. If you cramp your midsection it puts you very upright and you loose the ability to "climb around the bike" (a term I use to describe the ability to move fore and aft to balance yourself during climbing or descending steeps).
I wish you had been there to see my drift. It had to be impressive to see. Sort of like watching a guy on crutches travel across ice or something...not pretty, but hilarious to watch.
