Well last weekend was a bust... Not much as far as riding at all. I took a week's hyatice. I don't know why, just did. In the meantime I managed to do to much partying and not enough sleeping but hey, what can you do. We made it down to the lake this weekend which was a nice getaway. It was beatiful as far as the weather was concerned. The lake was busy, but fun non the less.
As far as riding goes I did a crit in Sedalia a few weeks back. Wow did that suck. Can't see myself ever doing one of those again. Damn roadies... I will never be one, and have no ambition to ever be one. Give me knobs, give me dirt, and I'll have one hell of a time. Give me slicks, pavement, and I'll still have fun, but will never be anymore than just training. I'm not trained for it, and I will not train for it because I am good at what I do, and that's rip trails.
Yesterday a couple of buddies and I headed out to Smithville Lake. We wanted to ride somewhere new, but once I began riding the trail I soon realized I had raced this course a few months back. It's a fun trail, all dirt, a little rock, and all singletrack. Not to technical, but fun. Some super fast corners, and little to no hills. Man it felt good to be back on the bike.
I really think taking off a week here and there is good. Especially considering how much I've been riding and training this year. It really gives you a break that the body sometimes needs. That and it makes getting back on that much better. I couldn't wait to ride again and now I'll be good to go until the our next race, which is the Trail of Four Winds race at the lake. I was going to go race up at greensfielder next weekend but I think I'll hold off on that one. I need to focus one getting back to 110% for this next race. I need it, and I think I'll be in prime shape for it.
So once again I'm going to throw this out, and we just need to plan it. A group ride, don't care where but we need one. Someone pick a place, pick a date, and we'll see if we can't work it out. Let's hear what you think...
Not a bad thought
Group ride sounds like a great idea. I can tell you from direct experience as well as from stories I've heard lately the bugs are at their positive worst right now. Hopefully some poor trail groomers slathered in deet will get out to Greensfelder before the race and trim it back. If they don't there's going to be a bunch of sorry racers the next week.
Maybe it's all the horses out there on the trails. I've never seen 'em so thick. OK well, I've never seen 'em anyway. They're no-see-ums for sure, but they're there, and in huge quantities to be sure.
Anyway, my point is, and there was a point in here someplace... Let's plan one, but let's plan one when we've had a cool night or two and these bugs are outta here.
I am there, dude.
Lets plan a little night epic in a week or so. Cooler temps after night fall should be a blast.
What you are really after is something new and exciting though, and I am down for that too. We should get a long weekend and head out for something really cool. It would be neat to go to Arkansas or something...at very least lest head over to St. Louis and hit up Matson and Klondike....hearing some good stuff about those. They are short, but very technical. Then we could pack up and hit Chubb.
