The First Race Back and on the Brand New Jamis Dakota 29'r

Today I dont think could have went any better. I was looking forward to this race because it was my first race back from my injury now over 2 months ago. And what could you only do to make it a bit more interesting? Do it on a new bike that you have less than an hour on. Today I raced on the Jamis Dakota 29r that they sent me for a replacement demo until my new Jamis Exile frame comes in.

I'll start with a quick review of the bike... Alum, 3x9, tora 100m fork w/ poploc, juicy 3's, dual duties. My first impression yesterday when I got it was the stem was too low which became evident after the first 5 miles. We, ( Unit and I ) switched it to the up postion and it was good after that. I did have a horrible ride yesterday which I had absolutely no energy. So all in all I had about 5 miles on the new adjustment. I took it in for a quick tune up afterwards and today it showed. This thing did exactly what it was supposed to do, putt my butt around the course and hope I would do decent. I wasn't expecting too much since this was my first race.

The Juicy's are a nice hydralyic that is much beter than the soles that came stock on the exile. I havent ridden a 3x9 in quite some time and I forgot how easy that granny is. Made it nice on the last few climbs in which my legs were about shot. The bike handled nicely and the 100mm is a nice fork. Definently isn't as nice as teh whitebrothers magic 80. This will be a good bike to take to colorado and I think I'll enjoy a change for a few months until I get my baby built back up.

So back to the race, it was awesome. My endurance today was a 180 from yesterday. We had a pretty deep class in the Sport 20-29. I think we had a bit over 15... Some MU racers, dog fish, two wheel, redwheel (Nick C.) and mix matched. I went into the woods in 2nd and after a mile the first guy wiped out and I took 1st. Uhmm... familiar terriorty but a bit odd for just being back. I dont know if I enjoyed trying to keep the lead pace but I guess I did alright. I dropped my water bottles twice. One of which was at a little less than a half way into the first lap. I struggled through the third lap and managed to pull out the first. Yup, the first race back and I pulled a fist out of my butt. Its all thanks to my two little watergirls... My little sis and mother. They came to watch today and helped me out with the whole water sitiuation... god knows we needed plenty of it today. Unit threw it down, and two-old did very well, congrats man!

Big props to Nick and Jessica at the Red Wheel Bike Shop for putting that race on. They also had some of the best swag I've ever seen! Unit, two-old must like you to have forked those over... Looks like I'm gonna get a tubless strip for my new 26 inch tubless tire I won today.
