Well we're back from our trip and happy to say no one sustained any "permanent" injuries. Although it was a crazy and brutal week on all of us. We took a trip to Colorado last week to take on a 4 day backcountry hike and some XC riding and a day of downhill.
We arrived last Friday night around 8 at our campground right outside of Estes Park. That night was pretty lax and we were out early due to the anticipation for the upcoming day. It was up early to head to the backcountry office to get our hiking permits and tags. We chose a 35 mile loop that consisted of some of the Continental Divide trail, and a cutoff horse trail. The lady at the desk said that it would be a little "strenuous" at times but we figured we could hang it. Well within the first hour of the climb I was sure not hanging it. I was not acclimated, and the pack I had to borrow for the trip was not fitting well at all. The first 3 hours where the hardest 3 hours I can remember physically and mentally. We had to climb 4000 feet, from 8,000 to 12,000 feet, in 4.4 miles. Let's just say it was rough.
The trail was straight up it seemed and I've never been so happy to reach the top. The mountain was called flat top mountain and I was as you can see by some of the pictures.

Glad you are back!
A few years back 2-old and I tried to camp at Estes Park...a hail storm blew in as we were trying to set up camp...everything got soaked and we got pelted with golf ball sized hail for about 15 minutes straight (we could not take cover in our tents because we were trying to set them up at the time)....that was a memorable trip!
This is a picture from the morning after that storm (we were supposed to ride up that mountain in the background).
Please post up some more pictures of your trip...give us the details man!
Nice view
All that searing leg pain and shortness of breath paid off. That's a helluva picture, G. Can't wait to see and hear more about your trip.
Good to have you back.
