So I was way tired last night and my computer was jacking up so the last blog was partly shitty. So back to where I left off. We reached the top, which was only half of the day's hike. We also had the hike down. The hike down was slow and tedious, and my pack had a death grip on my shoulders. Luckily by the third day we had that taken care of. Lol, those first two days sucked though. We made it to camp and I'm pretty sure we all just collapsed and did nothing for a good hour. Then it was put up camp and time to do some fishing for me.
We were lucky to have a camp fire the first night but unfortunatly it had just rained and the wood was soaking wet. So much for that. That night's sleep was one of great satisfaction, even on the hard dirt floor. Day two was amazing for us as we only had to hike 4 miles. We did it in about 2 hours and enjoyed the rest of the day fishing and relaxing.
Day three was a 10 miler, but somehow we got the first 5 done in a hour and a half. We were booking it. We finished the day off in about 4 hours. The last day was the dousy. It was another 10 miler. The first 6 were nothing but climbing and the last 4 were straight down the rock strewn, root infested trail we took up the mountian. We once again summited Flattop mountian, this time from the back.
The only thing I can say about this day is that I was happy as hell just to survive. We saw some awesome male elk, and the views were equally as nice, but the climb was brutal. The top was once again great to reach but I knew the way down would be the hard part. Going down a near vertical path with a 50 pound pack on sucks. Its a leg burner for sure. Here's some more shots from the hike. Overall we were glad to have it done. It was an awesome adventure but it was also very difficult at times, both physically and mentally between us. I almost forgot to say who went with me. It was Eric, my roommate, Mike, another of our friends, and me. We decided that next time, we only going to do a two or three day hike. We were stoked to get back to a hotel room for a fresh shower and a nice bed to sleep in. There's something about staying in the mountains for a few days that makes you appreciate the little things.
O thank god ye top! That's me on the left...
That was some unforgiving territory. Beautiful, but way unforgiving. The other two on the was down.
Fantastic Pictures....
Makes me want to ride!
Let's see some more...and make 'em bigger!
