Can't Stop Me Biotch

Bring it, all the snow and ice you want. I'm to the point now that I do not care. Its like a winter wonderland out there with all the white. I'm starting to see everything with shades of white now. But no, I will not be held to the indoors any more. I got home last night and decided I've had enough. I grabbed Raw and took it out for a nice hour and a half ride. The snow was cool. The soft ground underneath would bog you do every once in a while but overall it was great. Well, except for the crazy ass dog that chased me down the road. Now I really dislike dogs when I'm on my bike now. Last summer I was attacked by on of our farm dogs and he took a good bite into my left hamstring. Ever since then when I get chased I freak out. I'm thinking of getting that mace stuff to spray on them. Any of you all been attacked and had to use that stuff?

Kicking, yelling, squirting with water, mace, or pepper spray all will work sometimes....when it does not work, the dog will be even more mad and will likely be so enraged that you will regret your efforts. Sometimes, they will backfire on you too.

You will never be able to safely product a weapon or spray when you need to on a bike...unless you ride around looking for a fight. You are best off simply riding away.

The best policy of all is to simply ride faster than the ones you are with...you don't have to outrun the dog...just the slowest rider in the group.

Seriously, the best thing I have ever done is to treat dogs like a sprint effort (race finish). I actually call them and torment them when they start to drop in order to prolong the effort. As long as the conditions are good, you should always be able to out-sprint a dog. The big dogs are the best, they will run the farthest before giving up!

I've tired the outrun approach

But when your on a singlespeed you cant outrun much. I havent been able to outrun a few dogs during the days. A few I could but unless your on a geared bike on a flat surface your pretty much sol. The one last night started to make some lurches but I did the duck and dodge technique. I worry one day I'll pass a house that accidentily let their crazed rabid dog out and he'll catch me and eat me to death. Has this ever happend?

Death? Not to me....

I don't ride anything with gears...the dogs don't have gears either...seems fair to me.

Dude, you have wheels!

I dont know

There is no way I was outrunning this dog. He was on me like white on rice. Im sorry but unless your racing a fat dog on your singlespeed, your not going to be able to outrun them before he bites your ass. I know how fast you go when you pedal to the max on a singlespeed and these dogs are def. faster than that!
