It seems that the sudden upshot in training stress has taken its toll on me. Last weekend I capped several consecutive good trainer rides with two consecutive longish road rides (both with moderate to upper-moderate intensity).

Perhaps electing to ride this volume immediately following recovery from a head cold was a bad idea. I can not tell at this point if I am dog tired or relapsing into illness.
If I am getting sick, I guess it is a worthy sum to pay for the pleasure of riding outside as much as I was able.
On a similar topic, I was able to get the kids out on their bikes this weekend too. They elected to do some short duration sprint training against my urging to the contrary (in other words, they hopped on and raced each other the length of the street about 5 times before they got distracted with a ball they found in the gutter and ditched the bikes). It is way too early in the season to be polishing a 5 second mean maximal power in my book, especially without adequate warm up. Oh well, it beats sitting inside and playing Wii all day.
Say what???
Never underestimate the power of reclining and playing video games. My BMI is showing sharp increases over the past 3 weeks and video games are a primary culprit. ;-)
Seriously, watch out riding hard against a tired or recovering immune system. That's a fast pass to losing a lot of training time. Your body is already stressed out from battling the illness and then you stress it even further with the hard efforts. Take a day or two off and put your body at ease. Long way to go in the season.
True
Yes, and these are all things I know...but getting out and enjoying some good rides was just too much fun to pass up.
I will be taking your advice to the letter. I have banked enough saddle time to warrant some time off to rest comfortably. I need to hone my Guitar Hero skills anyway...my kids are starting point out how bad I am at it!
Green, Red, Yellow, Green
Rip it up! I'll come down and show you what a master looks like shredding it up on GH. I used to get down on that game. I got to try the Wii Fit for the first time the other day. Your a lucky man, I wish I had that thing! It's super cool, I dig the yoga workouts. Take a break man, one of these days I'm heading your way to drag you out to the trails. Domination will be had.
watch out
yeah gotta be careful coming back too soon after a cold, I did it last year and induced an asthma attack and i'm not even ashmatic!
