So yesterday I tried something I have not done in a while. I rode with no purpose whatsoever.
Usually, I ride for a lap time, or a set of intervals, or to crush the competition (that one rarely works out well), or at least to beat the oncoming storm. Yesterday, I rode for no reason at all...other than to enjoy the weather and the ride!
Here are a couple pictures of the ride. The first is where I am going. The ride started about 5 miles back, but this is where the ride REALLY starts if you know what I mean. You go down this huge hill and wind around in the flood plain before climbing up to the horizon you see in the distance. It really is much more breathtaking in person. There are some nice views around here...I take a lot of them for granted, but this winter has allowed me to regain the appreciation for them.
The second photo is what really got things moving yesterday. The temporary break in the weather. Seventy degrees is a heat wave compared to the freezing rain and snow we have seen for the past few months (and they are calling for tomorrow). What you can not see in these photos is the blasting wind...that was my friend and enemy yesterday (and hopefully today). At times it shoved me down the road at a wonderful clip, other times it made my legs remember that I need to get back to training!
Winter is not over, but it sure was nice to go out for a ride that had no purpose other than getting out and enjoying life on two wheels! Get some!
DUCK
Was this the route? I love that hill on D. Specially coming the other way, but either way there is a giant hill on both sides of the bottoms. Loving the weather!
Looking forward to it
I'm looking very much forward to climbing that hill a few times this year. Watch out, because I intend to make it a painful experience too.
Sounds very.
For G-Wiz: The route was not DUC, but the photo is looking down the hill where T becomes D (the one you are likely thinking of)...and yes, I did ride it both ways).
For 2-old: Sounds like fun....however, you really need not perform any specific action to make the experience painful...it seems to hurt all by itself. I dunno if you recall that cemetery on the way up...I have broken 2 chains at that point in the climb...not because I am a horse, because that hill will break stuff for you...it pitches up (grade increase) 3 times!
